Opposition complaints to the 2027 general election schedule have been ignored by Ajibola Basiru, National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who characterized them as politically driven and misguided.

In a Friday interview with Saturday Punch, Basiru stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s schedule strictly adhered to the Electoral Act.

The APC scribe responded to demands for a schedule revision by stating that opposition politicians’ outrage was unjustified.

“They’re amusing guys. He stated that the schedule was released in compliance with the recently enacted electoral law.

He said the opposition’s response shows a lack of readiness for the 2027 elections.

Instead than criticizing the timetable in public, Basiru recommended displeased parties to seek legal recourse if they felt it violated the law.

“Their lamentation only demonstrates their lack of readiness and tardiness,” he said. For the election in which they wish to take part, they wish to establish a schedule for themselves?

“They could choose to politically boycott the elections or contest the schedule in court if they are so convinced that something bad has happened.”

In recent days, opposition parties have criticized the updated schedule, claiming that it imposes strict constraints that could put them at a disadvantage before the national elections in 2027.
