Seriake Dickson, the senator for Bayelsa West Senatorial District, has stated that he does not currently have any plans to run against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

According to reports, Dickson said he is now more concerned with creating a respectable political platform than with pursuing personal goals.

The revelation was made by the former governor of Bayelsa State while speaking to reporters outside of a news conference at his Abuja home.

He recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and decided to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), which prompted the briefing.

Along with other political stakeholders, he claims that building the new party into a strong national platform is his top focus right now.

In reality, we want to seize control of the central government. And it is conceivable. People are what comprise a party. He stated, “It’s not the name.”

Dickson denied rumors that he was planning to run against Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election by joining the NDC.

Instead of talking about presidential aspirations, he stressed that the party’s current focus is on laying a strong foundation.

“You mentioned the presidential contest as well. Let me tell you now. Our concentration is not on that. He stated, “My colleagues and I are trying to develop a reliable platform to offer to Nigeria and draw in as many people as we can.”

In advance of the 2027 elections, the member also downplayed the ongoing national discussion on zoning and presidential ticket permutations.

He believes that political players have to prioritize fortifying political parties and institutions.

“Let me reiterate that politics is much more than zoning and the presidential ticket. Our initial goal is to create a celebration. We wish to avoid making the same mistakes that other people are.

“Every disagreement centers on who runs, who doesn’t, and which region comes first. First, let’s have the party. Things will come together on their own when that moment comes.

“Even though I am extremely qualified, I am not looking at that right now,” he stated.

Dickson urged lawmakers from all around the nation to join the NDC, stating that the party wants to develop into a broad national platform.

“We’re planning a party. Therefore, we would like to invite everyone. Everyone has a desire to be president, governor, senator, member of the House of Representatives, state House of Assembly, chairperson, or council member. Attend the Nigeria Democratic Congress. The game has changed because of NDC, he claimed.

In response to worries that members of the ruling party would join the new platform, the senator stated that all Nigerians are still welcome to join the party.

“Everyone is welcome,” he declared. We’ll be prepared to deal with any eventuality. But we have more concerns than that. Our goal is to draw good people from across this nation.

Additionally, Dickson made it clear that the new party is not the same as the now-defunct Niger Delta Congress.

He claimed that the newly established NDC was intended to serve as a forum for national politics.

“I represent all of Nigeria in politics. Dickson stated, “This newly registered party called the Nigeria Democratic Congress is different from the Niger Delta Congress of old.”

The senator, who had previously declared his retirement from the PDP, attributed the party’s crisis on internal strife and poor leadership.

“The avoidable, self-inflicted destruction of the PDP must be attributed to the governors and other leaders,” he declared.

Additionally, he cautioned against attempts to establish a one-party system in Nigeria.
