With 6,356 students enrolled for the 2025–2026 academic year, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta has seen its largest student intake in almost 40 years.

In a statement provided to our correspondent on Thursday, Olasunkanmi Olajide, the interim head of the Directorate of Public Relations, revealed this.

The matriculation took place in the Professor Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building concurrently with the university’s 13th Commencement Lecture.

The record admission marks a significant turning point in the 38-year history of FUNAAB, according to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, who spoke at the ceremony.

While advising the newcomers to maintain discipline, dress appropriately, maintain a minimum of 70% attendance in class, and closely follow the institution’s norms, Prof. Kehinde expressed joy at the increased confidence of parents and prospective students in the university.

“FUNAAB continues to be a training ground for future leaders,” the VC stated. As a result, students are required to maintain discipline, dress appropriately, attend class at least 70% of the time, and strictly follow the norms set forth by the university.

Prof. Kehinde reiterated the university’s zero-tolerance policy for wrongdoing and emphasized that responsible leadership and open communication are the only guiding principles for Student Union involvement on campus.

The students received assurances from the vice chancellor that their rights would be upheld.

Prof. Subuola Fasoyiro of the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training, Obafemi Awolowo University, challenged the students to develop character, competence, and capacity as the cornerstones of effective leadership in his commencement lecture, “Future Leaders of Character in Agriculture: Building Capacity Today for National and Global Impact Tomorrow.”

Prof. Fasoyiro emphasized vision, strategic thinking, boldness, emotional intelligence, honesty, teamwork, and resilience as the traits needed to shape the future.

In order for kids to have a better future, she also listed clarity, commitment, capacity, character, consistency, and contribution as crucial leadership attributes for national growth.

“The future is predictable, and you as students must position yourself through discipline and continuous learning,” Professor Fasoyiro continued. Maintaining your reputation will be much easier if you take care of your character.
