President Bola Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have been accused by Udenta Udenta, the founding National Secretary of the Alliance for Democracy and political activist, of using Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike to undermine the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
It was revealed In a Thursday interview with Arise News, Udenta said that Wike had recently acted “on the orders of the President” at the PDP National Secretariat.
He said that Wike’s political actions within the PDP were not autonomous but rather a component of a larger plan overseen by the President.
Udenta insisted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was purposefully hurting the opposition, claiming that the crisis shaking the PDP was now “externally engineered” rather than internal.
He claimed that although the PDP, like any major political organization, has its share of internal conflicts, outside meddling had made the situation worse.
“Wike is not an autonomous administrative or political force,” he declared. He is a reliant force.
“Wike went to Wadata Plaza on the President’s behalf because it wasn’t Wike who was there. The President is the one giving the press conference if Wike does.
“The APC and the Presidency are attempting to weaken the party while we fight to rebuild it and expand its brand.”
Additionally, Udenta charged INEC with vagueness and selective behavior in relation to the PDP’s leadership struggle, claiming that the commission choose which court orders to abide by and that it followed a directive that fit its desired result.
“INEC’s mandate is to be unambiguous and clear,” he said. INEC’s actions in Ekiti demonstrated that it did not accept Abdurrahman as interim chairman; nevertheless, Damagun was subsequently accepted. Did INEC agree to suspend four members of the NWC? INEC has not responded.
Udenta also blamed the police for allowing what he called the PDP Secretariat to be taken over by factions.
He said that the police let the Anyanwu group entry to the secretariat early in the morning, in spite of earlier concerns made by the son of the incoming PDP chairman, Tanimu Turaki SAN.
