26-year-old lawyer dies while celebrating Ghana’s victory over Panama

Sarah Araba Tettey, a 26-year-old lawyer, has died of cardiac arrest while celebrating Ghana’s victory over Panama on Wednesday.

Tettey, an alumna of the Faculty of Law at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), was called to the Ghana Bar earlier this year and had commenced work with O & A Legal Consult, sources familiar with the matter say.

It is reported that she was watching the match with some friends at the Standard Hostel, a private place at Bomso near KNUST when the incident occurred.

Witnesses said she collapsed suddenly during celebrations after Ghana’s victory.

Friends and bystanders rushed her to the KNUST Hospital, popularly known as Tech Hospital, where medical personnel reportedly carried out cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for about 45 minutes in a bid to bring her back to life.

Doctors and nurses tried for a long time, but she was pronounced dead a little later.

The news of her death has sent shock waves through the legal fraternity in Ghana with members of the KNUST law fraternity and her colleagues at the Ghana School of Law, many of whom knew her personally, mourning her demise.

Araba Tettey was known to friends and colleagues simply as Araba Tettey and was admired for her professionalism and seen as one of the promising young talents in the legal profession.

Many are mourning the death of what they are calling the loss of a bright and promising legal mind.

Her body has since been deposited at the mortuary of the KNUST Medical School pending further arrangements.
