Human rights attorney Maxwell Opara praised the Southeast for clearing Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), of charges of terrorism and criminality.
According to reports, Nnamdi Kanu was found guilty on all seven counts of terrorism and sentenced to life in prison on Thursday by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In an appearance with Arise Television’s Morning Show on Friday, Opara, however, maintained that Kanu is not a terrorist as is being portrayed.
He claims that Nnamdi Kanu has experienced the greatest injustice in history.
“People in the Southeast are aware that Nnamdi Kanu is neither a criminal nor a terrorist,” he stated. I would like to thank them for it.
“I want to urge all well-meaning Nigerians to band together and become involved in this case so that the Court of Appeal can overturn this ruling.
“I must inform you that, as of yesterday, when the verdict was rendered, one of the congressmen in America, where our delegates were meeting with the US Congress, brought up this matter and emphasized the type of injustice Nnamdi Kanu has endured at the hands of Nigeria as if the man were a Nigerian.
Thus, these people occasionally learn more during our conversations than you do. More injustice has been done to Nnamdi Kanu than to anyone else in the world.
“The Federal Government, which is prosecuting him, entered his home without warning and killed 38 people while he was having fun.”
