Desmond Elliot, lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly says he doesn’t see any political figure ready to take over from President Bola Tinubu for now.
The actor-turned-politician spoke during an interview with Morayo Afolabi, sharing his views on the future of Nigeria’s politics, changes in leadership, governance and his years in public office.
It was reported that he also spoke of projects and developments recorded in his constituency during his time in office.
According to Elliot, there is no visible political figure in the country who can fill the gap that President Tinubu is occupying at the moment.
In his words, no one has clearly emerged as the next leader who can succeed the president.
“I’m thinking, okay, who is the next saviour that can take Asiwaju away from what he is doing now? I can’t see yet.
“We need to develop our own style of democracy. Let’s say a 30 year plan for example.
“All of us are going to die some day. We’re not here long. You are in that particular place for a reason, not because you are better than the next person. Believe me there are people better than you.
“Power,” I’ll say. If you look at Surulere 10 years ago, it was a terrible place to stay in. “Electricity today is one of the best you can find anywhere else,” the lawmaker said.
