Ogun Broadcaster’s Death: Friends Call On Authorities To Prosecute Suspects

Friends of late Kitan Oyesiku have called on the Ogun State government, state police command, relevant security agencies and justice stakeholders to step up efforts and apprehend her killers and ensure they are brought to justice.

Late Kitan Oyesiku was a familiar face in the media circuit, having worked with Ogun State Television (OGTV) before her retirement.

She was shot dead in cold blood with her security guard at her home in Kobape area of Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said on Sunday that her corpse was discovered inside her apartment while that of the security guard was found inside the security post.

She added that her vehicle was also missing and an investigation had commenced.

In the wake of the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni on Monday visited the scene of the incident for an on-the-spot assessment and to personally assess the progress of ongoing investigative efforts.

Ojajuni toured the facility and was briefed by detectives working the case during the visit.

He reiterated the Command’s determination to leave no stone unturned in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that the perpetrators are identified, apprehended and brought to justice.

The Police boss said the vehicle, Lexus RX300, earlier reported missing from the residence, was recovered by police operatives during the night hours operation.

The command assured the public that intensive investigation is in progress with all resources to track down the perpetrators.

However, friend of the retired broadcast journalist, in a statement signed by Oluwaseun Boye on Wednesday, said the deceased was a peace loving and kind hearted woman, who did not deserve such painful death.

They argued that her murder must not be swept under the carpet saying, “Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done. Bringing the perpetrators to justice will thus reassure the public that no life is insignificant and that criminal acts of this nature will not go unpunished.”

They also hailed the Ogun State Police Command for the steps taken so far in the probe and urged them to maintain the pace until every person connected with the heinous crime is identified, arrested and prosecuted according to the law.

A portion of the statement reads: “Following our public appeal yesterday urging anyone with useful information to come forward, we, the Friends of Kitan Oyesiku, once again call on the Ogun State Government, the Ogun State Police Command, and all relevant security and justice stakeholders to intensify efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic killing of our dear friend, Kitan Oyesiku.

“Kitan was a peaceful woman with a kind heart and compassionate spirit whose life was taken from her in a cruel, senseless manner. She didn’t deserve such a painful death. Her death has devastated her family, friends and everyone who knew her.

“We call on the Ogun State Government and all relevant authorities not to let Kitan’s murder be swept under the carpet. Justice must not only be done, but seen to be done. Making the perpetrators face justice will restore faith in the people that no life is insignificant and that criminal acts of this nature will not go unpunished.

“We also renew our appeal to members of the public: if you know anything, please say something. “Any credible information, however small, could be the break investigators need to get justice for Kitan.”

However, the friends of the deceased expressed hope that truth will prevail and all those responsible for the horrific act will be brought to book.
