Three-storey building collapses in Lagos State’s Alakija area, several feared trapped Thursday morning.
The building reportedly collapsed around 11:40 a.m. near the Alakija axis inward Satellite Town causing panic among residents and passersby in the area, it was gathered.
Leadership could not immediately confirm how many people were thought to be under the rubble.
A crowd of people gathered near the site of the incident as anxious residents watched the rescue efforts begin.
Many people rushed to the scene to help before emergency officials arrived, witnesses said.
The first to arrive were police officers of the Satellite Division and Area E Command.
They helped residents rescue people under the collapsed building.
Search and rescue operations have now begun as authorities try to locate and evacuate victims from the debris.
Emergency teams expect to keep the operation going until all those trapped are accounted for.
There is no official confirmation at the time of filing this report of the number of casualties or injuries related to the collapse.
At the time of reporting, the cause of the incident was also unknown.
