Dr. Jinadu Garvey Yaweh, the State Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, National Youth Vanguard branch in Taraba State, has called the current spate of political defections in the state “unprecedented.”
In response to inquiries from reporters on Monday in the state capital of Jalingo, Yaweh stated that the gradual shift of politicians from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC had accelerated in recent weeks.
All 24 members of the State House of Assembly, he claims,
He characterized this as a major restructuring of the state’s political systems, noting that the Speaker and others had now joined the APC.
He added that the PDP’s political apparatus in the state was “almost empty” due to the defection of a number of senior government officials, including commissioners, the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Gebon Timothy Kataps, and the PDP State Chairman, Abubakar Bawa.
Governor Agbu Kefas, whom he praised as “an embodiment of justice, fairness, and political maturity,” is responsible for the trend, according to him.
He asserted that even though Governor Kefas had not made a formal announcement, the governor had already “unofficially” allied himself with the APC; the ceremonial ceremony was still pending.
He claims that the governor’s official switch to the APC was postponed because of recent national security concerns, especially the incident in Kebbi State, which led to an examination of his political activities.
According to the APC youth leader, Taraba would benefit more from joining the national ruling party since it would be simpler to draw in development initiatives.
Additionally, he disregarded worries that Nigeria was moving toward a one-party system, arguing that the present wave of defections demonstrated strong leadership and political clarity, which he felt would promote unity and quicken Taraba’s growth.
