Nigerian content creator, Peller has hit out at rapper Ycee after the musician criticised what he described as the growing “Peller culture” on social media, accusing the rapper of dragging his name into a bigger conversation on falling standards.
The war of words started after Ycee condemned the type of content currently dominating Nigeria’s digital space on the Afropolitan podcast. The rapper contended that intelligence and academic excellence were slowly becoming less relevant, citing Peller as an example while decrying what he called “Peller culture”.
Ycee questioned the educational value of such content but said the country’s entertainment scene was increasingly favouring sensationalism over substance.
Peller, however, didn’t take kindly to the comments. In a video shared on his social media pages, the TikTok star described Ycee as a “very anyhow OG” and accused the rapper of looking for attention by mentioning his name.
Same olodo uprising you are using to promote your noise, very anyhow OG If you are an old person, respect yourself. You have to say who? You are illiterate yourself. You are an old man with sense, you should be able to make your point without saying anybody’s name.”
Since then, the exchange has generated a flurry of reactions on social media, with users split over Ycee’s critique of online content culture, and Peller’s fiery reply. Some backed the rapper’s worries about the direction of digital entertainment, while others said Peller should not be singled out for creating content that millions of Nigerians embraced.
