The Osun State Police Command has summoned the senator representing Osun East senatorial district, Francis Fadahunsi, over a viral threat to “kill Accord” members before the state gubernatorial election.
The police invitation, it was learnt, followed the outrage on social media over the Senator’s comments asking supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to “kill” members of the rival Accord Party.
In a letter dated August 11, 2026 and signed by the Commissioner of Police, elections in Osun State, Samuel Etaifo Erale, Fadahunsi was asked to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Osogbo on Wednesday, August 12 at 11:00 am.
Cable said the letter invited Senator Fadahunsi to explain the circumstances of the statement alleged to have been made during an APC campaign in Ilesa on Tuesday.
“The invitation is predicated on information available to the Nigeria Police alleging that during your address at the aforementioned program, you made statements which were considered to be threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature and the statement has already been in circulation on various electronic and social media platforms,” the letter said.
Meanwhile, Fadahunsi has explained his controversial statement about the “Kill Accord”, saying that he was talking about defeating the Accord Party (A) at the ballot box and not urging violence.
Fadahunsi’s media office in Osogbo on Tuesday released a statement titled, “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence, Senator Fadahunsi Tells APC.”
Senator’s utterances were intended as a political expression urging APC faithful to vote Accord out, the statement said.
The comment was described in a statement as “a call on supporters to overwhelmingly reject the Accord Party at the ballot box by lawful, peaceful and democratic means during the August 15 governorship election”.
“The statement of the Senator was, to be clear, political and entirely metaphorical,” the statement said.
Fadahunsi’s media office said he did not call for physical attacks on members or supporters of Accord.
