Churches and other places of worship have been advised by the Kogi State administration to think about moving away from regions that are vulnerable to attacks due to insecurity.
According to reports, this came after Sunday’s assault on a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area of the state.
During the early morning service, armed gunmen came into the church and kidnapped the pastor, his wife, and several worshippers.
In response, Commissioner for Information Kingsley Fanwo stated, “Worship centers on the outskirts should also reconsider worshipping in crime-prone areas for now until the situation gets better.”
“I don’t think it’s ideal to worship in the bush without security in this day and age, just weeks after worshippers were kidnapped from a church in Kwara State.”
“At this point, we must all be aware of security. We must also provide intelligence.
“I am also aware that the security network, which consists of the local security architecture and the traditional security agencies, is now operating as it should. As we wait for security authorities to do their investigations and provide the public with their results, we do not yet have any numbers.
“We encourage residents to remain vigilant about their safety and to notify security authorities of any suspicious movements or faces. “Talk about what you see,” he continued.
