A former spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has bemoaned that despite the genius of President Bola Tinubu, he has failed to fix the challenges in the nation.
In an appearance with Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics,” Baba-Ahmed said that Tinubu ought to drop his ambition for reelection and look for a younger candidate within his party.
Baba-Ahmed, who quit as special adviser on political matters in the office of the vice president in April, claimed that Tinubu has failed to display the passion to fix the country.
He said, “I’m sorry, but I have to say this again. One of the things I said to many people when I left his administration was, “I wish President Tinubu would not run again in 2027.”
“First, he stated that becoming president was his goal, which he has already accomplished. “Emi lokan,” he said, and it was his time. But I don’t think he has run the country properly.
“The Tinubu we once knew, the one with all this tremendous intelligence for plotting, hasn’t demonstrated the same desire to make things better.
“He ought to identify a younger, healthier, and more focused candidate within his party to replace him.
He has all the power he needs, but he isn’t in charge of the nation. If he can lead this administration, he can persuade all these PDP members to join him.
“Let’s go back to this Trump thing, I didn’t see a president who should respond to an emergency or a challenge in this manner, with the manner and spirit that he should. I was blind to it. It’s not limited to this problem.
“The truth is that Nigeria has deteriorated so badly that we cannot continue to run things as if they’re normal.”
