The residents of Illushi in Esan South East Local Government, Edo State have cried out for help to relocate to safer place following the overflowing River Niger bank.
They said more than three-quarter of the community had been submerged into the River Niger, noting that they listened to forecast that this year’s flood would be severe.
Traditional ruler of the community, Christopher Ike Ikebodi, in an interview urged the federal and state governments to provide a safe place for residents to relocate when flood water rises.
“We can’t help it. We rely on the government because we were told that floods will overtake everyplace.

“We are begging for help. The illusion is almost gone. Three-quarter of the community is washed away. We are pleading government to assist us. “We will be in trouble when the River Niger overflows its bank,” the traditional ruler said.
The Edo State was named as one of 11 states to experience flood this year with early warnings to residents in flood prone areas to relocate.
