Nigerian comedian Mr Macaroni has opened up about his decision to stay away from politics, saying the country’s political environment has raised concerns for him.
The social commentator made the revelation in a viral video while speaking about the difficulties he faces when using his platform to comment on issues affecting Nigerians.
Mr Macaroni said advocating for citizens can be frustrating because the people being represented may eventually criticise the person speaking on their behalf.
He explained that public opinion can quickly change, with Nigerians sometimes moving on from serious issues after initially expressing strong dissatisfaction.
“I’m so happy about how things have been, and you keep talking, and it seems like you’re the troublesome person. The same Nigerians that you speak for turn against you,” he said.

The comedian said his observations have made him reconsider the idea of entering politics.
“I look at Nigeria, and I don’t think I want to get into the political space because it seems like the political space in Nigeria corrupts the very best of us,” he said.
He also recalled the experiences of some people he once looked up to, saying their involvement in politics affected the reputations they had established.
“Men that you have looked up to and you have respected, they got into politics and ruined their legacy,” he said.
According to him, such experiences have contributed to his lack of enthusiasm about joining the political arena.
Mr Macaroni also spoke about the reaction of ordinary Nigerians to economic hardship, particularly rising fuel prices.
He observed that citizens may spend days expressing anger over increased prices before eventually accepting the situation and moving on.
The comedian questioned why Nigerians are often praised for their ability to survive difficult circumstances.
He argued that having to endure persistent hardship should not be something citizens celebrate.
“Nigerians take pride in telling you, ah, if you can survive in Nigeria, you can survive anywhere. It’s not something to brag about,” he said.
