Nollywood actress Juliana Olayode has spoken in support of women who openly desire marriage, insisting that such aspirations should not be treated as evidence of desperation.
The actress addressed the subject in an Instagram post, where she encouraged people to respect women’s individual choices concerning relationships and marriage.
Olayode said women who prefer being single should be free to live according to their convictions. At the same time, she said women who hope to marry should not be mocked or criticised for expressing that desire.
She argued that a woman’s interest in marriage does not take away from her accomplishments, ambitions or sense of purpose.
“Wanting to get married is not a personality disorder,” she wrote.
The actress recognised that marriage can sometimes be difficult and that some marriages end in painful circumstances. Nevertheless, she said marriage remains a desirable institution for many people who hope to build families and share their lives with a partner.

She recalled hearing women at a salon criticise another woman who had expressed her wish to get married. Olayode said she gave her own opinion during the conversation.
She later found humour in the experience when she remembered a “BRIDE” swimsuit presented to her by a friend in 2024.
Olayode said there is nothing wrong with women having different priorities in life. She listed faith, purpose, career, financial stability, friendship, family and marriage among the aspirations women can pursue.
She wished those hoping to marry good partners and fulfilling relationships, ending with an expression of support for love and marriage.
