Senator Alli Campaign Organisation has described Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, as “clueless” and “an embarrassment” to the state over his admission that Oyo was receiving increased allocations from the Federation Account without a corresponding reduction in hunger.
The organisation, in a statement on Tuesday by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, said Makinde’s comments in Lafia, Nasarawa State, amounted to an indictment of his administration.
Makinde had acknowledged at an APM North-Central Town Hall meeting on Monday that states were receiving more money from the Federation Account, but said the increased revenue had not translated into relief from hunger.
Reacting, the Alli campaign said: “For failing to address hunger in Oyo State despite increased funds from the federation account, Makinde has shown that he is more than clueless.”
It said the governor’s acknowledgment of higher allocations confirmed that states were receiving more revenue under the economic policies of the President Bola Tinubu administration.
The organisation questioned why the Federal Government should also be expected to take responsibility for how Oyo State deploys its increased revenue.
“If through the ingenuity and purposeful leadership of President Tinubu, Oyo State allocation from the federation account has increased tremendously, should it also be the duty of the President to ensure judicious use of the money?” it asked.
It added: “If you have acknowledged that monthly, you have been getting more money from the federation account, who are you expecting to come and help you to fight hunger in your state? Is it President Tinubu?”
The campaign organisation also accused Makinde of frustrating the effective functioning of local governments in Oyo State and opposing local government autonomy.
It alleged that the governor’s position was intended to preserve his influence over state and council funds.
The organisation urged Oyo voters to reject what it described as an attempt to extend Makinde’s style of governance beyond 2027, saying the governor and his preferred candidate would be rejected at the polls.
