Sexy Steel Makes Claim Over ‘Dami Duro’ Beat, Davido Gives His Account

The story behind Davido’s early hit “Dami Duro” has resurfaced after Nigerian artiste Sexy Steel claimed that he owned the song’s original beat.

Sexy Steel made the claim in a video, prompting renewed interest in how the instrumental was created and eventually used by Davido.

During an interview featured in an Afrobeat documentary, Davido confirmed that the foundation of the beat was initially created for Sexy Steel.

Davido explained that he made the instrumental in his Lagos studio in 2011 while working on music intended for Sexy Steel.

He said producer Shizzy later contributed to the production by adding keys and other musical elements.

As the beat developed, Davido said he recognised its potential and decided to use it for his own recording instead.

The instrumental became the basis for “Dami Duro,” a song that went on to become a major hit and an important part of Davido’s emergence in the Nigerian music industry.

While Sexy Steel has raised the issue of ownership, Davido’s account focuses on the history of the beat and confirms that it was originally created with Sexy Steel in mind.

The development offers additional insight into the creative process behind “Dami Duro,” which became one of the prominent Afrobeats songs of the early 2010s.

The song remains an important part of Davido’s early catalogue and his rise to mainstream recognition.
