Juliet Igwe, a 38-year-old entrepreneur, has been detained by the Imo State Police Command for injuring her six-year-old female maid, Onyinyechi, in the privates with candlelight.

In addition to injuring the minor’s intimate areas, the businesswoman also injured her body with candle wax and peeled off the infant’s two hands using hot water.

Imo State Police spokesperson Henry Okoye revealed that the woman’s arrest was the result of information obtained by agents of the Ideato North police Divisional headquarters as he paraded the suspect before the Command headquarters in Owerri, the state capital.

Additionally, he praised Chidiebube Okeoma, an activist journalist who founded the Stand For Humanity Foundation, a human rights organization.

Okoye revealed that the suspect would have her day in court at the end of the investigation, calling the woman’s behavior abhorrent and completely unacceptable.

He said that the deputy commissioner of police in charge of the State Criminal Investigations Department had been instructed to look into the incident and charge the suspect in court by the state commissioner of police, CP Aboki Danjuma, who is dissatisfied with the act.

Okoye also praised Okeoma and his charity for assuming accountability for the minor’s welfare and medical problems.

The suspect, who claimed to have caused the minor’s injuries, informed reporters during an interview that she was unaware that the female kid would suffer severe harm from the usage of boiling water and candle wax.

The child was also accused by the suspects of stealing meat from her pot, claiming that this was done to prevent it from happening again.

Speaking as well, Okeoma revealed that his foundation reported child abuse in the Ideato North LGA’s Uruala neighborhood to the police.

In addition to saving the girl and giving her to the Ideato police, Okeoma revealed that his organization helped the police apprehend the perpetrator.

“We have assumed responsibility for the minor’s medical and welfare packages. For appropriate medical examinations and treatments, we have transported her to the Imo State University Medical Center in Owerri,” he stated.

He also praised Dr. Uche Ewelike, the Executive Secretary of the Imo State Health Insurance Agency, for authorizing the minor’s full, free medical care.

We express our gratitude to the state Commissioner of Police for promptly directing the matter to be transferred to the state CID in Owerri upon our contact with him. He declared, “The CP has once again shown his passion for justice and humanity.
