In light of the recent large-scale political defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), former Minister of Information Lai Mohammed has rejected claims that Nigeria is headed toward becoming a one-party state.
He claims that because the current situation is not the first time Nigeria has seen a large-scale transfer of politicians from one party to another, Nigerians are bad history students.
According to reports, Mohammed made the submission during his Friday speech at Achievers University’s convocation lecture in Ondo State.
Fears of a one-party state, according to the former Minsiter, are completely baseless.
“Nigerians are terrible historians.” There have previously been large-scale shifts from one political party to another. It is a component of democracy and growth, he remarked.
As previously reported, the former Information Minister also reaffirmed his allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu’s administration, emphasizing that he purposefully avoided the spotlight.
Having been at the forefront of government operations in the past, he continued, “I fully support the current administration, but whatever he needs to do now, I pass it through the back doors.”
“I am an extremely devoted APC member.”
“I completely support this administration. However, I have fulfilled my front-line role. I’ll use the back channels for whatever needs to be done right now.
“I consider myself extremely fortunate to have served as minister for eight years, making me the longest-serving minister in this nation’s history,” he declared.
