Gunmen Seize Former Ogun Lawmaker Inside Mosque

Moruf Musa, a former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, was kidnapped by gunmen on Tuesday night in Ibiade, Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.

Musa, who was the Assembly’s Majority Leader from 2007 to 2011, was allegedly arrested at around 7:00 p.m. while attending Muslim prayers at a mosque on his property.

The kidnapping took place during the evening prayer, according to Ogun Waterside Local Government Area Chairman Ganiyu Odunoiki, who confirmed the occurrence on Wednesday. He also added that the perpetrators fired shots along the road as they fled.

“The report is true, the former lawmaker was abducted on Tuesday evening,” Odunoiki declared. Some persons on the road were reportedly shot by the gunmen as well.

We are currently searching the nearby bushes with a few police officers, but we are still awaiting the anti-kidnapping team, who are already en route to assist us. Additionally present is the Nigeria Police’s Ogbere Area Commander.

The kidnapping was also confirmed by the Ogun State Police Command.

DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the state police public relations officer, stated that the command was aware of the situation and had put security measures in place to guarantee Musa’s safe return.

The suspected kidnapping of Hon. Musa Moruf in Ibiade, Ogun Waterside Local Government Area, has been reported to the Ogun State Police Command.

“The public is advised to remain calm pending official updates, and security measures have been activated, including the deployment of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit,” Babaseyi stated.

According to a community source, the former congressman reportedly battled his kidnappers for more than 20 minutes, attracting locals’ attention.

The insider further said that before fleeing with the victim, the gunmen fired intermittently into the air to frighten onlookers away.
