The National Assembly has promised to provide Certified True Copies (CTCs) of the newly approved Tax Acts signed by President Bola Tinubu in response to public concerns over purported inconsistencies.

Bullah Bi-Allah, the National Assembly’s Director of Information, said in a statement on Thursday that the Clerk has been instructed to make the signed tax bills—including the certificate pages—available for public inspection.

According to Bi-Allah, the decision was made in response to public demands for transparency following reports that claimed there were discrepancies between the Tax Acts that were later gazetted and those that were recorded in legislative votes and processes.

“The alleged disparities between the National Assembly’s votes and proceedings and the gazetted versions of passed tax acts were noted by the management,” he stated.

The CTCs of the harmonized bills have only been formally sought by a small number of people, he continued, despite the general curiosity.

“Every one of these requests has been handled,” Bi-Allah said.

The Director of Information further revealed that the Clerk is collaborating with the Federal Government Printing Press to guarantee the publication of the properly certified and assented Acts in accordance with the law.

He clarified that although the Clerk is responsible for starting the gazetting procedure, the Federal Government Printing Press is legally responsible for printing and publication.

The gazettes should be ready on Thursday, he said.

The National Assembly has decided to examine the rules governing the transmission and publication of bills in order to improve institutional operations.

All bills that need to be approved by the president will now go through presidential liaison officers.

“Unless the Clerk to the National Assembly or his authorized representative initiates the request, the printing press will not consider gazeting an act of the National Assembly,” Bi-Allah declared.

The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to openness, responsibility, and professionalism while praising Nigerians for their active participation in legislative processes.
