Pastor Chris Okafor, the founder of Grace Nation International, popularly referred to as Liberation City, has temporarily resigned from the pulpit.

The development coincided with requests for the pastor to resign from his leadership role and pastoral responsibilities in the church due to a romance controversy involving actress Doris Ogala.

However, it’s unclear if the romance controversy and the subsequent accusations against the clergyman had any bearing on the decision.

Chris Okafor announced the news during Thursday’s New Year’s service and invited four of his pastors to step in until January 2026.

“There are four Sundays in January, and since they will be prophetic Sundays, Pastor Sylvester, Pastor Kelvin, Pastor Oliver, and Shadrach will minister to you and anoint you each Sunday.

They’ll be here, then. The priest stated, “I will be resting while they are here, and it will be time for a personal retreat with God and time for me and my wife to rest because we haven’t rested, had time, or even done a honeymoon since our wedding.”

Remember that the issue began as soon as the pastor’s younger partner’s video appeared on the internet.

Actress Doris Ogala was among the ladies who reportedly chastised him after the engagement for having sex with them and promising them marriage.

Okafor married his new bride in a different church amid the uproar after actress Ogala threatened to ruin the event.
