Following what President Donald Trump referred to as a massive military assault against the South American nation, the United States on Saturday charged Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro with drug trafficking and terrorism.

Maduro and his spouse, who were already expelled from Venezuela by the US military, according to Washington, “will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts,” Attorney General Pamela Bondi wrote on X.

Bondi remembered that the Maduros are accused with “Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy” before a federal court in New York.

In a post on his Truth Social account, Trump revealed the situation, saying that Maduro had been taken prisoner by American forces and flown out of Venezuela.

Trump wrote, “The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been captured and flown out of the country along with his wife.”

The operation was conducted in cooperation with U.S. law enforcement organizations, he continued.

He said, “This operation was carried out in collaboration with U.S. Law Enforcement.”

Additionally, Trump said that he will discuss the issue in more detail during a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida at 11:00 a.m. (1600 GMT).

As Trump’s two-week Christmas and New Year’s holiday at the resort draws to a close, the news is made.

Additional information about the allegations and the operation’s circumstances was not made public right away.
