Governor Sim Fubara has been proclaimed the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State by its National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda.

This occurs at a time when Fubara and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), are once again at odds over the state’s leadership position.

Fubara has proclaimed himself the 001 of the APC in the state after defecting to the party.

However, Wike disregarded the governor’s position, emphasizing that he is in charge of the state’s political system given that the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party have joined forces to back President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

In response, the APC National Chairman declared that if Fubara were to win the party’s primaries, he would back him for a second term.

“Governor Fubara is the leader of the APC in Rivers State, but he would need to coordinate with every other person in the state,” Yilwatda stated in an interview on Channels Television’s Hard Copy.

“I don’t pick a candidate to back in the state’s primary. I will back Fubara if he wins the APC nomination.

“I’ll sympathize with him and support the winner of the primary election if he loses.”
