Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a well-known Islamic scholar, has refuted a widely circulated rumor that he claimed the United States attacked him on Nigerian territory.

Gumi said he never made such a claim and never thought it was possible, characterizing the report as wholly untrue in a post on his verified Facebook page.

He clarified that the mistake most likely resulted from a talk he gave at a mosque in which he discussed a previous security danger connected to Boko Haram.

Gumi only described how he was told that Boko Haram intended to kill him in August of 2012.

He claimed that the effort was unsuccessful because the attackers were killed when a device they were carrying detonated close to his home.

The cleric emphasized that, at the moment, he is safe and contentedly residing with his family, free from intimidation or fear.

Additionally, he urged the media outlets that released the information to retract the story and offer an apology to the public.
