In Katsina State’s Malumfashi Local Government Area, bandits are said to have assaulted multiple settlements, killing and wounding locals while kidnapping others.
Bakatsine, a crisis journalist and security analyst, revealed the news on Tuesday through his X Twitter.
“SAD NEWS: Last night, bandits stormed communities in Na’alma Ward, Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State, including Unguwar Alh. Barau, Gidan Dan Mai-gizo, and Gidan Hazo.” During the attacks, they kidnapped some locals and killed and injured a number of individuals.
“Why did this attack still take place within Malumfashi LGA territory, and what is the current status of the recent peace deal reportedly reached with bandits by Malumfashi LGA leaders?” Written by Bakatsine.
Concerns regarding the frequent breakdown of peace accords between armed bandits and community leaders in Katsina State have reportedly been rekindled by the most recent incident.
According to locals, it has become common for bandits to engage in peace negotiations with local authorities before breaking the agreements and attacking impacted areas once more.
Residents reported that the situation has increased dread and uncertainty, with many doubting the ability of such peace agreements to ensure security.
In order to restore peace and safeguard lives and property in the area, the impacted communities have urged the Katsina State Government and security authorities to take prompt action and put long-term safeguards in place.
