Asari Dokubo, the Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri in Rivers State’s Degema Local Government Area, has pledged to support President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 reelection campaign.
According to reports, Dokubo made the promise on Tuesday while Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike was visiting his palace.
He claimed that backing President Tinubu to seek a second term would be retaliation because the president had stood by him when he needed people.
“As you mentioned, my buddy, I will support you in ensuring that my friend, the President, is successful in anything that comes up.
“I will do everything in my power to ensure his success.
When we first met in 1992, I was not a traditional ruler. I never saw myself being what I am now.
“He supported me during my most trying time, and now it’s my turn to support and stand by him as well,” he remarked.
Wike had previously stated that the purpose of his visit to the community was to express gratitude to the locals for their support and to inform them of the reasons they ought to back Tinubu in 2027.
He also expressed gratitude to Dokubo for the kind welcome.
“I am aware that traditional leaders do not engage in political activity.
The Minister stated, “You are my friend, and I felt that there is no way I would come here, where you reside, and your kingdom without coming to greet you and say happy new year.”
