Drama in Lagos: 248 Passengers Escape Death as Qatar Airways Aircraft Makes Emergency Landing

A Qatar Airways flight with 248 passengers and 12 crew members had to make an emergency landing at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos on Friday due to a mechanical issue.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, or LASEMA, said in a statement that the aircraft experienced a malfunction while in Nigerian airspace, requiring the emergency landing.

According to LASEMA, a distress call was received over its 767/112 toll-free emergency lines. The LASEMA Response Team, LRT, verified that the aircraft was in distress as soon as they arrived on the scene.

At Murtala Mohammed International Airport, the pilot made a safe landing on the runway while the LASEMA Response Team and other emergency personnel were on high alert.

The multi-agency responders coordinated their cooperative efforts. The aircraft was transported to the apron for a thorough examination and timely repairs following a thorough assessment by the pilot and the engineering team.

According to the statement, “all passengers of the distressed airplane were evacuated safely; no injuries or fatalities were reported.”

The agency reported that there was no significant damage to the aircraft despite the technical problem and the emergency landing.
