Malam Auwal, the father of the main suspect detained in connection with the horrific murders of seven family members in Kano’s Dorayi Chiranchi neighborhood, has urged security services to make sure his son, Umar Auwal, gets punished right away.
Umar, who is still being held by the police, is charged with killing his aunt, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children on Saturday in broad daylight. The event has caused indignation throughout the state.
Maimuna (17), Aisha (16), Bashir (13), Abubakar (10), Faruk (7), and Abdussalam (1.5 years old) were the victims.
The suspect has admitted to the murders, according to police authorities. Additionally, he was reported to have acknowledged responsibility for a recent attack in Tudun Yola in which two housewives were killed and their home was set on fire.
Malam Auwal publicly repudiated his son in an interview with Freedom Radio, claiming that he should not be spared and calling him “useless to society.”
It is abhorrent what he did to my wife’s younger sister and her co-wife, as well as to my younger sister and her six children. I put some distance between us,” he remarked.
Umar killed his own younger sister years ago and removed her eyes, according to the distressed father.
“I don’t even want them to spend time pursuing legal action. It is intended to get rid of Umar and like people. “They shouldn’t be remanded and fed with taxpayer funds,” Auwal continued.
Malam Auwal stated he had already sacrificed his kid and made it clear that neither he nor his wife, Umar’s mother, would attend any court sessions pertaining to the issue, while praising the police for their prompt response.
The 35-year-old Fatima Abubakar and her children were allegedly killed when attackers, purportedly under the command of Umar, broke into their home at Dorayi Gidan Kwari. This development has continued to be denounced by locals and community leaders in Kano and elsewhere.
