Prior to the 2027 governorship election, Babagana Umara Zulum, the governor of Borno State, has stated that he has no favored successor and that the people’s democratic will should determine who will rule the state going forward.

According to reports, Zulum made the statement late on Sunday during a meeting of All Progressives Congress stakeholders at Government House in Maiduguri.

Speaking to members, elected officials, and party leaders, the governor stated that he did not have a nominee for any position and that he was unsure of his successor should the APC hold the governorship in 2027.

“I have no candidates for any positions, and I’m not sure who will take my place. In accordance with the democratic desire of the party members and the people of Borno State, I have given Almighty Allah the authority to choose the leaders,” Zulum said.

The governor emphasized that he remained devoted to the APC’s principles, pointing out that the upcoming party congresses must be guided by justice, fairness, and openness.

He claims that preserving party unity and ensuring the APC’s continued success in the state depend heavily on the integrity of the process.

Zulum cautioned against imposition, claiming that any attempt to influence the process may undermine public trust and harm the party.

The governor urged stakeholders to permit new individuals to assume leadership roles inside the party, firmly advocating for the emergence of a new generation of party officials.

He claimed that a transparent and inclusive procedure would improve internal democracy throughout the state and fortify the APC’s grassroots organization.

Zulum urged party members to set aside their personal agendas and cooperate to strengthen and unite the APC in Borno.
