According to Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, a former director of voter and publicity education at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), there is proof that the Senate is purposefully holding up the Electoral Act’s adoption.

According to reports, Osaze-Uzzi made this accusation on Tuesday while answering questions during an interview on the “Prime Time” show on Arise Television.

He believes that the Senate shouldn’t put off passing the Electoral Act because the 2027 elections are close.

Osaze-Uzzi further stated that Nigeria would be forced to return to the Electoral Act of 2022, which he believes has shortcomings, as a result of the delay.

“Evidence shows the Senate is purposefully delaying the passage of the Electoral Act,” he stated. It appears to be a calculated tactic, based on the circumstantial evidence, in my opinion.

“When you observe all of these events, how they develop, what was the cause? That will be on the legislative agenda for the same reason that was mentioned yesterday, and it was the top priority.

However, those of us who keep an eye on these issues find it troubling that there are two or three main issues. I believe the agricultural aspect is present. As we thought about it, it was still about the budget.

However, keep in mind that several pundits, attorneys, members of civil society, and members of the media have stated that Nigerians perceived the shortcomings in the 2022 Election Act. We saw the problems.

“Even the National Assembly noted that after passing the Act, they discovered that they were expecting certain statutory delegates who should represent their country at national conventions, and they attempted to return him to the late President Muhammadu Buhari for an adjustment. Elections are coming up. We shouldn’t be acting in this way.
