Police Promotions: PSC Elevates One AIG, Two CPs, 26,119 Inspectors

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has authorized the promotion of one Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), two Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), and over 26,000 Inspectors, following its 3rd Plenary Meeting on Thursday, 29 January 2026.

Assistant Inspector-General of Police Funsho Adegboye was promoted to Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) by the Commission, which was presided over by DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd).

Furthermore, Dansabo Idi and Danjuma Aboki, Commissioners of Police, were elevated to the position of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).

Torty Njoku Kalu, Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, PSC, claims that the promotions were made through a strict, merit-based procedure that included passing written exams and Commission-conducted oral interviews.

The Commission also authorized the promotion of 26,119 Inspectors to Assistant Superintendent of Police II (ASP II) in recognition of their exceptional performance in the recently finished Departmental Selection Board Examination, in a historic decision that demonstrated its dedication to career advancement.

DIG Funsho Adegboye was the AIG in charge of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) at Force Headquarters, Abuja, prior to his elevation.

Over the course of his decades-long career as a decorated officer, he has held senior positions in operations, training, and administration.

He has served as a Divisional Police Officer, Area Commander in Ijero and Ile-Ife, Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations in Ondo State, Commissioner of Police in Homicide (FCID), Force Intelligence Department (FID), and Edo State Command.

He has worked abroad for the United Nations in Somalia, Timor, Liberia, and Kosovo.

AIG Dansabo Idi was the Acting AIG in charge of Research and Planning at Force Headquarters in Abuja, while recently promoted AIG Danjuma Aboki was formerly Commissioner of Police in Imo State Command.

His extensive experience includes roles as Divisional Police Officer across Kebbi and Kaduna states, Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) in Kebbi, Area Commander in Yauri, Owo, Awe, and Kosoboso, Commander of 63 PMF Ikorodu, Lagos, Deputy Commissioner of Operations for Zone 1, Lagos, Commandant of the Police College, Kaduna, and Commissioner of Police, Investment, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd) congratulated the recently promoted officers and reiterated the Commission’s commitment to openness, meritocracy, and best practices in appointments and promotions.

“These promotions are a testament to our officers’ hard work, competence, and dedication,” he stated. I implore them to see their new positions as a call to greater duty, more responsibility, and a renewed dedication to our country’s safety and security.

The Chairman also praised the PSC Standing Committee on NPF Matters, which is headed by DIG (Dr.) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), as well as other Board members for their efforts in conducting extensive interviews and examinations.
