According to former Ikwerre Local Government Area Chairman Samuel Nwanosike, the people of Rivers State are profiting from a political risk taken by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Nwanosike told reporters that when Wike chose to back President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 election, he was taking a political risk.

He noted that since taking office in May 2023, the president has authorized the nominations of multiple state natives.

According to him, every Rivers State voter who is eligible will cast a ballot for the president’s reelection in 2027.

For a man who has done so much for Rivers State, he said, “There is no other way to express gratitude.”

“Wike understood our future and chose to endorse an APC presidential candidate in 2023, taking a political risk.

Tinubu had partially kept his promises to the Rivers people even before he had held power for up to three years.

“We’re all voting for President Tinubu in 2027; we’re not doing political parties.”

In the meantime, Wike has stated that he is keeping a careful eye on events within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Oyo State, emphasizing that his concern is a result of his dedication to the party’s continued existence and power.

The comments were reportedly made by Wike on Monday during his speech at the 105th PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

“Let me make it clear that I am interested in this party’s existence and prosperity. All of the events in Oyo State PDP also pique my curiosity. Nothing else interests me,” he said.

In addition, Wike denied allegations that PDP members were being intimidated, especially in view of recent court rulings in favor of his party section.

“Who will intimidate us to the end?” he exclaimed. By God’s grace, some of us are blind to the threats that stand in our way. The court case has ended. Recognizing the Caretaker Committee is their only choice.

“His remarks seem to allude to the struggle for control inside the Oyo PDP after a faction loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed annulled a parallel national convention in November 2025.

“Earlier, the Makinde-Bala group’s convention was declared invalid by the Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, as it supported the faction that formed a Caretaker Committee for the state.”
