According to Dr. Aminu Waziri, a former executive secretary of the Katsina State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), there isn’t a strong political rival in Katsina State that may overthrow the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
Waziri told reporters that the ruling party’s consolidation at the ward and community levels, along with ongoing government initiatives, has diminished the power and visibility of alternative parties. Waziri officially rejoined the APC on Monday.
“The reality on the ground indicates that Katsina State now lacks a strong opponent. The people still support the APC’s leadership and programs, and the party is still firmly in power at all levels, from the local to the state,” he said.
He claimed that a large number of opposition members from his old party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Accord Party, have either joined or collaborated closely with the APC, resulting in the disarray and fragmentation of their previous platforms.
Recent political developments and defections have severely undermined opposition infrastructure throughout the state’s 34 local government regions, according to the former head of SEMA.
He ascribed the trend to the administration of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s increased attention on governance, increased social interventions, and sectoral investments in local infrastructure, education, security, and agriculture.
Dahiru Ibrahim, an ADC member in the state, responded to the assertion by stating that opposition groups are still in operation and are reorganizing in preparation for the 2027 generation poll.
“I can assure you that our party, ADC, has very strong and formidable structures across the 361 wards of Katsina State, and we are ready to recover power from the APC at both state and national levels,” he said.
Ibrahim described Waziri’s assertion as baseless and unfounded, pointing out that political momentum can change prior to election cycles and that it is premature to conclude that there is no credible opposition.
