There is no longer any rift inside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), according to Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the party’s factional national secretary.
He claims that the party’s leadership problems have been resolved by the Federal High Court’s recent ruling in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Speaking on Thursday during a gathering of political party leaders with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Anyanwu announced that his group would assume control of the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja on Monday.
He maintained that the Oyo Court ruling superseded the earlier court order that resulted in security personnel shutting the secretariat.
He claims that a recent ruling by the Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, has accelerated the opposition party’s comeback.
“As the National Chairman of the PDP, Abdulrahman Mohammed is the head of the real PDP leadership,” he said.
Anyanwu further stated that the court ruling has allayed any concerns over candidates’ eligibility, allowing the PDP to submit candidates for the 2027 elections.
The truth is that we have no issues with our party. No faction exists among us. My chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, is in charge of the only PDP in Nigeria.
“First and foremost, Nigerians are well aware that we had problems—hardcore problems, to be exact—but last week, the Federal High Court in Ibadan made it clear that the PDP’s problems are over because the so-called convention of November 15–16, 2025, is a nullity and that no one else should claim to be the party’s chairman.
“With the exception of the National Working Committee, which is headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed, no one else has the complete authority to represent the party, work for it, or manage it.
Since they had no locus, the other group’s request to have the police open was denied when they went to court after the police had blocked the area, as you are aware.
Therefore, we will be occupying the office by Monday. Members of the party are immediately relieved since they no longer have to worry about not being able to run in the upcoming election. He declared, “The issue is resolved.”
