The delay in formally welcoming Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara into the ruling party has been explained by Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.

In an interview on TVC Politics, Yilwatda claimed that the postponement was a calculated action related to regional and religious factors, especially the approaching Ramadan fast.

The majority of the inhabitants in the North are Muslims, and Ramadan is approaching, so we decided to clear the North first,” he reportedly said.

We begged that we complete the work with the northern governors who defected before heading to the south since Ramadan is a particularly delicate time.

Yilwatda denied rumors that the delay was caused by politics inside the party or the residual influence of Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, on party matters in the state.

“The fact that Sim lacks control is unrelated to this. He stated, “It is about strategy and knowing the sensitivities of each community.”

The APC chairman gave party members the assurance that after the ongoing operations in the North are over, Governor Fubara will be formally welcomed into the party.

In order to respect cultural and religious diversity throughout Nigeria, Yilwatda emphasized that the party was making a conscious effort to integrate new members.
