Deji Adeyanju, a civil rights activist and attorney, has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to look into the case of Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State. Adeyanju claims that El-Rufai was corrupt and has raised concerns about the way insecurity was handled during his tenure.

In a Thursday statement, Adeyanju called on the intelligence service and the anti-corruption agency to operate independently and fairly.

Accountability, he said, must be extended to all public officials, current or former.

He characterized as “strange” the claims of political persecution made by El-Rufai, claiming that the former governor’s administration was widely chastised for stifling dissenting opinions.

Many detractors, including activists, priests, and political analysts, allegedly experienced incarceration, harassment, or intimidation during that time, according to Adeyanju.

In addition, he requested that the DSS look into alleged controversial security measures connected to El-Rufai’s government, including as claims that violent organizations received financial inducements.

He asserts that these kinds of allegations present serious national security issues and call for a thorough investigation.
“I demand that the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) look into former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and his handling of insecurity while he was in office right away,” Adeyanju stated. The law shouldn’t be above anyone.

“He must provide a complete report if there are concerns regarding financial malfeasance or abuse of office, and the appropriate agencies must resist any kind of intimidation or blackmail.

“Hearing allegations of political persecution from a leader whose administration was frequently accused of stifling critics is peculiar.

According to reports, a number of people who opposed his government—including activists, religious authorities, and public commentators—were detained, harassed, or threatened.

It is imperative that we never forget the unresolved abduction of one of his well-known detractors, who was kidnapped in front of his family.

“In addition, there have been reports that his government made contentious security arrangements, including payments to violent actors, which the DSS may look into.”
