On Thursday, when Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, arrived at the airport from Cairo, Egypt, security personnel tried to arrest him.

His media assistant Muyiwa Adekeye revealed this in a post on his 𝕏 account.

He claimed that when the security guards tried to arrest El-Rufai, the former governor objected and insisted on a written invitation, following which they obtained his passport from an assistant.

According to Adekeye’s statement, “Malam Nasir Elrufai was trying to be arrested by security personnel today when he arrived on a flight from Cairo.” Without a formal invitation, Malam El-Rufai refused to follow them. But they stole his passport from a helper.

In the face of growing political tension in the nation, El-Rufai has previously expressed concern that the Federal Government, led by the All Progressives Congress (APC), would be planning his arrest.

A former APC leader who is currently a leader of the opposition African Democratic Congress, El-Rufai, also asserted that some lawmakers were under pressure to either stay in the ruling party or defect.

In an interview with BBC Hausa, he made the assertions.

The former governor, who has recently stepped up his criticism of the APC and President Bola Tinubu’s administration, claimed that while he had not been arrested, several of his close associates had already been taken into custody.
