Osafile Stella, the sole opposition member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, revealed that she has been made fun of for choosing to ally with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) instead of the Labour Party and join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Following the Assembly’s plenary session on Monday, Osafile revealed the information in an interview with reporters.

While acknowledging that the taunting have persisted, she emphasized that criticism is inevitable in public office and that she has learned to deal with the realities of political life.

There are, of course, taunts, but you have to learn to be tough in politics. It’s hard to go forward without that,” she remarked.

In response to inquiries about whether the ADC has assured her of a reelection ticket before the next election, the MP stated that her political choices are influenced by the preferences of her voters.

The party is not new, she said, and it already has established institutions that work.

“The ADC is a reputable organization. The buildings are present. I was encouraged to do this by my people. “I moved to the ADC at the request of the constituents I represent,” she said.

Regarding religion’s role in governance, Osafile emphasized that Nigeria has a secular system and that political engagement transcends religious lines.

“How you approach politics will always be a reflection of your personality. You can’t separate yourself from government because it comes after God’s authority,” she remarked.

The House Committee on Wealth Creation and Employment is presently chaired by Osafile, who also denied claims that she has faced prejudice in the Assembly because she is an opposition member.

She claimed that Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, the Speaker, has carried out his responsibilities in a fair and competent manner.

“I emphasized ability, competence, and character when I ran for office. I think the Speaker is aware of his obligations and assigns them correctly. Stella stated, “I have not encountered any kind of discrimination.”

He’s dedicated to governance, not party politics. He has allowed me to work freely and has continuously put the Constitution ahead of party differences,” she continued.
