According to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seems to operate more effectively when opposition leaders are involved.

The assertion was made by Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s national publicity secretary, in an interview on ARISE Television on Thursday in response to the arrest and detention of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami.

Concerns about national anti-corruption organizations being viewed as partisan were voiced by Abdullahi.

“To look into and investigate corruption charges and prosecute individuals for corruption practices, we have the EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, two national institutions funded by public money,” he stated.

However, it seems that they are only effective and efficient when opposition leaders are involved. Additionally, we are worried about the transformation of national institutions into partisan tools.

What he called selective prosecution was further questioned by the ADC spokesperson.

Because all it takes is a glance at the government’s side to see the types of people who make up the ruling All Progressives Congress. “They use the broom to sweep it under the carpet the moment they join the ruling party, even though they have cases pending in court and have previously been investigated,” Abdullahi claimed.

Nonetheless, he insisted that the party was not endorsing the guilt or innocence of the parties.

We do not, then, assert that Malami or El-Rufai are guilty or not. The weaponization of national institutions against opposition leaders and their bastardization are issues that worry us,” he continued.
