The recently implemented cashless payment system at airports has been suspended by President Bola Tinubu due to the traffic jams that travelers across are experiencing.

Following President Bola Tinubu’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday at the State House in Abuja, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, made this revelation.

He pointed out that, especially at the airports in Lagos and Abuja, the approach had resulted in extreme traffic jams and difficulties for passengers.

He claims that the cashless method was implemented to improve income collection transparency and prevent corruption.

“The goal of implementing a cashless system was to get rid of airport corruption.

“Nigerians have been suffering as a result of the delays, but the system’s introduction caused a lot of gridlock.”

According to him, the president ordered an immediate restoration to the prior payment schedule while adjustments were made.

“Mr. President ordered that the current method be suspended since it causes a great deal of traffic.

“He advised us to return to the status quo before properly refining the system.”

Keyamo went on to say that the president ordered the platform review to be completed as soon as possible.

He stated, “The President said we should work with the private sector to create an electronic system that will collect the money without causing delays.”

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria will continue to be consulted on the next course of action, the minister promised.

FAAN started putting the cashless policy into effect on March 1, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Prepaid access cards or electronic channels must be used instead of cash at airport toll gates, according to the rule.

Due to delays at toll booths, numerous passengers missed flights as a result of the development’s bottleneck.
