Former Senate President Bukola Saraki honored former President Olusegun Obasanjo on his 89th birthday, referring to the elder statesman as a “living manuscript of the Nigerian story.”

Saraki praised Obasanjo’s long-lasting influence on Nigeria’s political and national development in a tweet on his 𝕏 account on Thursday, emphasizing that his life serves as an example of the country’s historical development.

Obasanjo’s life and impact are still deeply ingrained in Nigerian history, the former Senate President said in his birthday tribute.Despite the fact that history is frequently recorded in the past tense, the life of our beloved former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, continues to be a living manuscript of the Nigerian story, defying the odds and demanding our attention,” Saraki said.

He also prayed for the continued strength and wisdom of the former military head of state and civilian president, pointing out that his voice is still vital in trying times for the nation.

Saraki concluded, “So, Baba, as you celebrate another year, we celebrate not just the length of your years but also the relentless relevance of your voice.”May your renowned wit remain as sharp as ever and may your wisdom continue to be a trustworthy guide amid the nation’s challenging times.”Your Excellency, happy 89th birthday. In the years to come, may God grant you strength, health, and peace.

Saraki’s remarks reportedly follow President Bola Tinubu’s congratulations on Obasanjo’s 89th birthday, in which he referred to him as an elder statesman whose services to Nigeria remain significant.

Tinubu acknowledged the former president’s ongoing impact on the country’s development by highlighting his contributions to national discourse through books, public comments, and policy lobbying.

President Obasanjo’s “towering influence” together with “the zeal and wisdom he has brought into Nigeria’s development process through his books and regular interventions, revealing a depth of patriotism to nation-building.”

When talking about his longevity and health, Obasanjo allegedly thanked God for keeping him alive and well at the age of 89.

The former president proclaimed that he would serve for as long as God desired, rejecting those who wished him dead.God has given me the tools to fulfill His promise that He has more for me to perform while I’m here on Earth. The quote reads, “I dey kampe as usual.”
