Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defense, welcomed Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to reports, Lawal switched to the ruling party on Monday, with APC flags flying at Government House and the deputy governor and state executive council members representing him.
In a statement posted on his X account, Matawalle characterized the event as a pivotal point in the nation’s and state’s political history.
He said that the governor’s switch to the APC will improve teamwork in tackling the state’s problems, especially insecurity.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda would also benefit from the development, according to Matawalle.
“Today is a historic day in our state’s and our country’s political history as we welcome a friend and brother, His Excellency Dauda Lawal, the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, into our great party, the APC,” he said.
Matawalle went on to say that politics should be viewed as a tool for fostering togetherness rather than separation, characterizing Lawal’s defection as a political reunion.
In addition, he expressed optimism that the party would work together to win the 2027 Nigerian general elections and urged party members to come together.
He declared, “As a progressive, I will support Governor Dauda Lawal in pursuing our shared vision for a more secure and prosperous Zamfara State.”
