The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) named Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) the winner of the November 8, 2025, elections, however George Moghalu, the Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for governor in the Anambra election, has contested the results.
According to reports, Soludo defeated fifteen other contenders, including Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Just six hours after the final pronouncement, Moghalu told reporters in his Nnewi office on Sunday that the exercise did not represent the people’s desire.
Moghalu described the poll’s conduct as seriously defective, claiming that extensive irregularities, particularly vote buying, compromised the process.
“In my opinion, the Anambra State governorship election on November 8, 2025, fell short of expectations,” he stated. I hereby reject it completely.
“I’ve run in elections before, but this one was unique. Vote buying was at a worrisome level.
Additionally, the LP candidate asserted that some juveniles were allowed to vote and that they were observed carrying voter cards.
“Children who were not supposed to be carrying voter cards were openly seen with them and allowed to vote,” he claimed.
“These are problems that cast doubt on the process’s integrity.”
Additionally, Moghalu claimed that voters in certain polling places had complained about the Labour Party’s name appearing on the ballot without its emblem, which he claimed may have misled voters trying to find the party.
“This is part of the disturbing reports we received from the field,” he stated. These anomalies are too serious to be disregarded.
The LP candidate promised to provide a more thorough statement after he had a thorough report from agents stationed throughout the state.
“Once I have the complete election report, we will analyze it and decide on our next course of action,” he stated. One thing is certain, though: I disagree with the outcome.
Declaring that it would be “premature” to make a decision before considering all the information, he declined to disclose whether he would go to court.
In response to allegations that several LP agents were absent from voting places, Moghalu stated that some may have quit their positions due to dissatisfaction with the irregularities they saw.
