George Moghalu, the Labour Party’s candidate for governor of Anambra State on Saturday, has explained why he lost his polling place.

In an appearance with Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics,” Moghalu attributed his defeat in his polling unit on vote-buying by some of the candidates.

He said that he declined to participate in vote-buying because he could not afford to match the sum of money other contenders were giving voters.

He claimed that because of their financial difficulties, a large number of voters in his voting unit gave in to the allure of money.

Yes, since the amount being paid was too much for me to pay. I was unable to pay, so I declined to do so and to become involved.

“What do you expect my people to do when they have too much money to purchase votes? Many of them are impoverished, which is why they fell, he said.

Moghalu especially accused the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the ruling party in Anambra, of being the primary offender in the purported vote-buying operations.

He disclosed that APGA party tags were seen on a number of party agents, some of whom had been detained for purchasing votes.

It has been documented that some of them bought votes.

Moghalu continued, “A commissioner in my specific constituency was also caught on camera purchasing votes.”
