Following the security operation that resulted in the arrest of infamous Abia-born kidnap kingpin Obioma Nwankwo, commonly known as “Osisikankwu,” in Aba in 2010, Abia State Governor Alex Otti has honored Staff Sergeant Amoke Gunshot Simeon.
Recall that between 2008 and 2010, “Osisikankwu” led an infamous abduction gang that terrorized Aba and the neighboring environs. Amoke then conducted an operation that put a stop to his rule.
Amoke, a soldier of the Nigerian Army, was instrumental in locating and capturing Osisikankwu, the gang leader, and reestablishing state security.
During a visit to the soldier’s rural home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Council, Governor Otti promised to pay for Amoke’s medical care abroad in order to guarantee his recuperation and return to good health.
Amoke described his mission in Abia to reporters following Otti’s visit, stating that his team’s job was to find kidnappers and criminals in order to bring about peace.
He remembered that “Osisikankwu” had even offered him ₦50 million to continue his illegal activities, but he had turned it down.
He continued by saying that he has gained respect and recognition for his integrity and dedication to his work.
“I was on general patrol throughout Abia State, covering areas from Ngwa High School to Asa, Onicha Ngwa, and Ikot Ekpene,” he declared. When I turned down the bribe, the people of Abia State were happy.
“A good job pays well. Governor Otti’s support and remembrance of me make me proud today.
Amoke also described his experience after suffering severe leg injuries in a car accident in the Northeast while still serving on active service.
He thanked Governor Otti for the offer of treatment overseas and for his support.
“It was actually an accident while on duty in the North East, and the initial treatment did not help,” he continued. The fact that Governor Otti honors those who battled for Abia State makes me very happy and excited. His backing will inspire other service members to perform their duties with diligence.
