Abass Olalekan, the Local Government Inspector (LGI) for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Abeokuta South Local Government Area, was taken into custody after a female NYSC member died on Tuesday.

Victoria Ariyo, a corps member who worked for the local government, is said to have passed away due to pregnancy-related issues.

It was discovered that she had ended her pregnancy, and that the complications that followed the treatment caused her death.

A source claims that after verbally announcing her death, Olalekan organized several corps members to arrange her funeral. Her remains are said to have been interred at Kobape Cemetery on Kobape-Sagamu Road in Abeokuta.

According to sources, the deceased and the LGI had a romantic involvement that resulted in her being pregnant and having a termination that killed her.
Ariyo’s death was alleged to have occurred just one month after Adeleye Mary, a friend and fellow female corps member, passed away under what have been termed as unexplained circumstances.

Mary’s Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) was Ogun State Television (OGTV), and she was employed by the same Abeokuta South LG.

“He is in our custody at the command’s headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta,” a police source stated, confirming Olalekan’s detention.

When questioned about the LGI’s detention and the suspected involvement, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Police Public Relations Officer, declined to comment.

However, Babaseyi affirmed that inquiries into Victoria Ariyo’s death were still underway.

“I can confirm that the State Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the case of Victoria Ariyo’s death,” Babaseyi said in a succinct statement.
