Rabiu Kwankwaso’s supporters screamed Peter Obi’s name on Sunday during the annual Kwankwasiyya Sallah festival in Kano, where the former Labour Party presidential candidate was present.
As both leaders acknowledged applause and spoke to the assembly, the crowd, many of whom were donning the Kwankwasiyya movement’s iconic red caps, continuously praised them.
Kwankwaso, a former New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, reportedly hosted Obi during the festivities.
Former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson, who visited Kwankwaso at his home, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde were also present at the ceremony.
Speaking to the audience, Obi made it clear that his visit was intended to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr and pay tribute to Kwankwaso rather than for political purposes.
“I’m here to honor our leader and to celebrate with you on the occasion of Sallah,” he declared.
The former governor of Anambra State also emphasized the importance of reviving Kano’s industrial strength, especially its formerly prosperous manufacturing areas.
“We want to change Kano,” he stated. Building a new Kano is our goal.
“We intend to restore Kano’s power, as well as the factories in Bompai, Sharada 1, Sharada 2, and Bank of the North. Sallah is being celebrated today, not politics.
In anticipation of the 2027 presidential race, the two leaders’ combined appearance has once again stoked rumors of a potential collaboration.
Although no formal agreement has been revealed, talks about a possible Obi/Kwankwaso ticket have been intensifying.
Obi has finalized his transfer to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), but Kwankwaso has insisted that he wouldn’t think about quitting the NNPP unless he was assured a ticket for president or vice president.
